Washington Court House officials received a generally positive financial update Wednesday, with Finance Director Ron Sockman describing the city's cash position as healthy going into the last months of 2026, the Record Herald reported.
Personnel matters dominated the rest of the briefing. City Manager Joe Denen said the city is hiring a water meter reader and that applications can be picked up at the administration building. He also said interviews are proceeding after seven police officers completed the sergeant exam, with results and names to go before the Civil Service Commission afterward.
Fire Chief Chris Wysong said no firefighter positions are open now, but his department is assembling a civil service eligibility list. Expected retirements could produce openings before long, he said, so having qualified candidates ready would help.
On appointments, Denen said Elaine Crutcher was reappointed to the Tree Committee and praised her service. The Historic District Review Board has a seat to fill, and regional panels also need members: two spots on the Fayette Regional Planning Board and three on the Fayette County Planning Board. Denen said the city generally names one representative to each of those boards.
