ROCKPORT, W.Va. — Weekend flooding in the Mid-Ohio Valley cut a Wood County family off from its driveway, according to WTAP.

Amanda Burr told the station that her husband, Jeremy Burr, was leaving for work at 5:15 a.m. Monday when he found the bridge over Pond Creek Road at their drive had been destroyed. She said her husband and her son both missed work that day, and that two younger children could not attend school.

Burr described the household as fairly self-sufficient, with food and water available, and said neighbors were a major help. On Monday evening, she said the Foggins family came to the property, removed what was left of the old bridge and put in a temporary footbridge across the creek so the family could get out.

According to Burr, nothing like this had happened in the 11 years her family has lived on Pond Creek Road. She said the previous owners, who had the house for eight years, had not seen it either.

She said the family is now looking for a contractor to install a new permanent bridge. WTAP reported the flooding followed heavy rain over the weekend.
