Lauer Historical Farm in Allen County was the setting for a weekend World War II reenactment organized by Lauer Farm 1944. WLIO described the event as giving visitors a way to experience the era without leaving the county. The grounds included a wartime camp setup and a battlefield meant to resemble France. In the farmhouse, reenactors presented elements of life on the American home front. WLIO reports that the gathering is in its seventh year.
The event was scheduled to continue Sunday with two mock battle demonstrations, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Organizers also planned historical presentations, a fashion program focused on the period and story sessions. Matt Martini of Lauer Farms 1944 told WLIO that the event gives children who may not enjoy textbooks a way to encounter history through their senses. He said he hopes visitors learn at least one new thing and gain a sense of how earlier generations lived. Schedule information was available on the Lauer Farm 1944 Facebook page.
