This Clark County page explains WebCheck fingerprint background checks run by the sheriff's office; it does not describe the duties of the county auditor.

If you came here looking for a rundown of what an Ohio county auditor handles in Clark County, this page does not provide one. It says nothing about that office, its duties or its services. What it actually covers is WebCheck, a fingerprint-based background check service run by the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

WebCheck was created by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. The page calls it an internet-based option for civilian background checks and describes it as an automated scanner used to check a person's record for employment purposes. State law requires such checks for people applying to certain job classifications.

Speed is the advantage the page stresses. Results can come back in as little as several hours and generally within three days, while older inked print cards can take 30 days or more. The service is offered at the sheriff's east district office on East Main Street, east of Springfield, and inked fingerprint cards are not available at that location.

To use it, bring a photo ID such as a driver's license or state ID, the name and address of the agency sending you, and the contact person who should receive the results. The report goes directly to that contact and only indicates that a criminal history exists, without describing it.

The fees shown on the page took effect July 1, 2012. A check of Ohio records alone costs $35, and you must have lived in Ohio for five years. Adding an FBI check costs another $35, bringing the total to $70. Payment is by credit card only, since cash and personal checks are not accepted. The page gives a phone number, 937-521-2114, for more information.
