Bucyrus residents will vote Nov. 3 on a four-year income tax of 0.10% whose proceeds are designated for reopening the Aumiller Park swimming pool and for upkeep of city-owned parks.

Fred Fischer, representing the Bucyrus First 2.0 political action committee, discussed the measure on the Community Spotlight podcast, which the outlet described as paid-for. He said the pool was shut for the most recent season because of funding and repair problems.

The proposal began smaller. City Council looked in January at a 0.065% levy limited to the pool, then widened it to one-tenth of 1% so that shelters, mowing and tennis, basketball and pickleball courts would also be covered.

Fischer's estimate puts the cost at about one cup of coffee a month for a household at the city's median income. Planned work includes a $3,000 filtration system for the baby pool and repairs to leaks in the main pool next spring, according to the account. The mayor has promised free admission for children of city taxpayers.

Backers say the levy would shift roughly $150,000 a year off the general fund. Council and the administration have said that money would buy two police cruisers annually, replacing vehicles now about a decade old.
