Matthew Grube will take the open Williams County commissioner seat after the county Republican Central Committee picked him at a Thursday, Oct. 22 meeting, chair Carrie Schlade said. The Village Reporter attributed its information to Schlade.
The vacancy came after Commissioner Terry Rummel resigned effective Oct. 17. Rummel, a Republican, had said on Aug. 18 that he planned to leave the board after close to a decade on it. Voters returned him to office in 2024 for a term that started in January 2025.
State law assigns the replacement decision to the central committee of the party that nominated the departing commissioner, with a 45-day limit for acting. The committee had noticed a 5:30 p.m. Thursday session at the Quality Inn in Holiday City, saying candidate interviews would be conducted in executive session and that votes would be recorded by open roll call. No vote tally was included in the report.
Grube joins Bart Westfall and Scott Lirot on the three-member board.
