Meigs County voters are being asked to approve a 2-mill levy for the Meigs County Board of Developmental Disabilities, according to a WSAZ report published Oct. 24, 2026. Superintendent Bret Malone told the station the ballot language lists it as an additional levy because previous wording had to change, but he said the request is for the same tax rate the county has collected for years. He said the wording can confuse voters.
The board provides educational services at Carleton School and adult services for county residents with developmental disabilities, WSAZ reported. David Weber, whose brother has used the services for decades, told the station the program is important locally and said without it school-age children with disabilities would return to public schools, which he described as a poor outcome for students and schools. He also said the services give his brother purpose and help the family.
According to the report, the levy is 2 mills, the rate Malone said is currently taxed. WSAZ included a calculation: appraised property value times 0.7, divided by 1,000. Malone said if the levy fails, it could be placed on the ballot again through 2028; he warned funding loss could force cuts, including early intervention for children from birth to age 3.
