Putnam County commissioners used a recent meeting to review leachate management at the county landfill, which has been closed for 30 years, according to meeting minutes.

Maddux Treece, representing Maxwell Earth System, presented JEPS, a soil decompacting product. The minutes indicate the product could help water spread more effectively across the landfill site. Commissioners' minutes also say the county is working to complete leachate handling and needs final approval from Ohio EPA. The minutes describe the leachate as essentially water and state that the county has no leachate problems or contaminants.

Separately, Phill Dysard of Palmer Energy met with commissioners about electric aggregation rates for a purchasing group made up of six political subdivisions, including Putnam County and the Village of Paulding. The group wants a locked-in power price to offset anticipated increases, according to the minutes.

Commissioners also discussed health and dental insurance rates for county employees; 234 employees receive insurance, the minutes say. Chad Recker of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was reappointed to the county's 911 review board. Commissioners met in executive session to discuss employee compensation.
