Ready to Rent, a free program that teaches current and prospective renters about topics including budgeting and tenant rights, is expanding in Toledo, according to WTVG. The curriculum began in Oregon and was created by Raina Evans, the station reported.

Kristin Gray, who recently started the anti-eviction nonprofit Golden Soil Foundation, is one of 10 certified Toledo-area instructors helping extend the program. Before the expansion, the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board had two instructors, WTVG reported. One is Kristin McKinley, the board's youth coordinator, who has taught the course to young adults for about a year. A pilot was held at Park Apartments with young adults who had previously experienced homelessness.

McKinley said participants receive a certificate intended to strengthen housing applications and gain a support network; she said she can serve as a reference for graduates. She said the program will restart in December, probably in six two-hour sessions, and additional classes will begin next year.
