Grandparents in Wood County who are raising their grandchildren can apply for holiday gift assistance through a program supported by Wood County Job & Family Services and WCCOA, WTVG reported on Oct. 28. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Holiday Outreach Project is intended to help families facing financial hardship buy some holiday gifts, according to the report.

Applications are due by Dec. 1 and can be submitted at any of the county’s eight senior centers or mailed to the Wood County Committee on Aging. To qualify, an applicant must be at least 50, live in Wood County, demonstrate financial need and be the grandchild’s guardian while sharing a home with them. The report said need is evaluated using current federal poverty guidelines and other circumstances.

The county also holds monthly Kinship Cafes in Perrysburg, Bowling Green and Lake Township for caregivers. The gatherings include a meal and a chance to meet people in similar situations, with child care available, WTVG reported.
