ANTWERP — Board of Education members for Antwerp Local Schools heard at their monthly meeting Wednesday that the district has drawn statewide recognition on two fronts, according to Superintendent Martin Miller.
Miller said the district's Ohio Special Education rating came back perfect. He also told the board that U.S. & World Report placed both the elementary and the high school among the top 40% of comparable buildings across Ohio. The superintendent added that work on the bus garage is moving forward without problems.
Tim Copsey, who directs Paulding County Economic Development, attended the session and briefed members on the Antwerp Square project. Property owners are asking the district for tax increment financing and community reinvestment area agreements, and the board plans to examine those requests, a board media release states.
Middle School/High School Principal Jessie Arnold reported that eighth graders will head to Washington, D.C., in the opening week of November. Elementary Principal Doug Billman said 43 pupils take part in the afterschool program and announced the August-September students of the month for kindergarten through fifth grade. Separately, the board handled a range of personnel and administrative items.
The board's next session is set for 5 p.m. Nov. 19 in the board room.
