ODOT construction in Athens County may affect travel this week, with schedules contingent on weather, according to the Athens County Independent’s Oct. 26 roundup. The U.S. 33 expansion between Athens and Meigs counties continues, with shoulder and intermittent side-road closures from Oxley Road to Rocksprings Road through 2028, rolling blocks during blasting, and the passing lane shut in both directions between Oxley and Pleasant Hill through June 1, 2027.

Pleasanton Road is closed through Nov. 20, with a detour via Old U.S. 33 and Pleasant Hill Road; a 13-foot width limit and temporary signals are in place there through Nov. 20. Lane closures continue on the four-lane section to Rocksprings Road through Dec. 31, and project completion is estimated for 2028.

Other ODOT work includes U.S. 33 resurfacing from Nelsonville to Logan, with lane closures expected through Nov. 7; sign replacement between SR 682 and Rock Riffle Road with intermittent shoulder closures through Nov. 30; and culvert work on SR 329 between New England Road and SR 144, controlled by temporary signals through Oct. 30.

In Athens, North High Street between West State and West Carpenter will close Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a sewer tap, with no through or emergency traffic. South Shannon Avenue was closed Monday, Oct. 26, for a sewer tap from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rocky Boot Way is closed between Canal Street and the alley near the city pool until 5 p.m.
