The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says a recent structural inspection at the Clark County Jail on North Fountain Avenue found damage to an exterior support column. The column is significantly cracked and requires urgent repair, according to the office.

A structural engineer directed that the column be braced and supported immediately while repairs are pending, the sheriff’s office said. Inmates in housing areas directly affected by the column were removed and taken temporarily to the Logan County Jail. The office described the transfer as expected to be short-term and said those displaced would return after the column is properly supported.

Other inmates and areas of the jail were unaffected and remained safe, officials said. As of Oct. 25, the sheriff’s office had not provided the number of inmates moved, a repair schedule, or a date for their return. Questions about the temporary move can be directed to the Clark County Jail Command Center at 937-521-2096.
