Hancock County residents will have a different channel for emergency alerts starting next year.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says the Everbridge Emergency Notification System will be discontinued by the end of 2026. The agency's agreement with Everbridge runs through Dec. 31, 2026.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, the sheriff's office intends to use the Hancock County Sheriff's app to deliver emergency notifications. The agency is asking residents to install the app and to pass the information along to neighbors and others in the county.
Residents with questions can reach the sheriff's office at 419-424-7097 or hancocksheriff@co.hancock.oh.us.
The notice was published Oct. 25, 2026, roughly two months before the Everbridge agreement is set to lapse. The announcement did not describe how the app's notification feature works, whether enrollment is required, or what will happen to user data held in the outgoing system.
Residents who currently depend on Everbridge should plan for the transition before the end of the year, since the agency says the platform will no longer be used once the contract ends.
