From its inception in 1898 by Salathiel and Keturah Prater, White Cottage Park catered to generations of visitors seeking leisure at Indian Lake. Initially featuring six cottages, it quickly became popular for fishing and camping, with the Lunatic Fishing Club capturing over 2,000 fish during a memorable stay.
In 1918, ownership changed hands to Peter and Bessie Schlegel, who expanded the resort, increasing the total number of cottages and enhancing facilities over the years, including a grocery store and activities such as tennis and boating. By 1951, the resort boasted 70 cottages and numerous boats, continuing to attract vacationers.
In later years, management changed to Nathan and Gail Coon and eventually to Charles Tavenner in 1969. The resort closed around 1973, marking the end of an era. Today, the site remains a notable aspect of local history that contributed significantly to the community's recreational offerings.
