A FOX 8 report published Oct. 22 says the Medina County Health Department is tracking 18 measles cases as of its Oct. 21 update. County officials classify three as confirmed and 15 as probable. The cases involve several families in a small group, and those affected are isolating as a precaution, the department said.

Officials said people who have been vaccinated have a low chance of infection. As of the update, no public exposure sites had been found, including at schools. For each identified case, the department contacts the person to learn whether anyone else may have been exposed. If a public exposure location is later identified, the department said it will inform the public.

Health officials call vaccination the best protection against measles. The department points residents to its measles webpage for additional information.
