The Pickaway County Veterans' Service Office is seeking Purple Heart recipients to be recognized at a Nov. 13 event, the Circleville Herald reported.
Recipients who wish to take part are asked to pass their information to the office by Monday, Nov. 2. The office can be reached by phone at 740-474-3650 or by email at thuffman@pickawaycountyohio.gov.
The office operates as a county agency under the Veterans Service Commission, which describes its mission as helping Pickaway County veterans in times of need. Its service officers assist veterans, surviving spouses, dependent children and dependent parents in applying for VA benefits through accredited veterans' organizations.
According to the agency, its staff members hold accreditation from the Ohio Department of Veterans Services and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.
The office said its work focuses on veterans' compensation and pension claims and widows' benefits. It also provides emergency financial assistance, transportation to VA appointments, and help preparing and submitting claim forms to the VA.
