SHELBY — Pioneer Career and Technology Center is broadening its career-technical and academic offerings this fall, according to a Crawford County Now report published Oct. 28.
Academic Supervisor Dan Slaughter described two facility changes: the Shelby campus is in its first full year using a new advanced manufacturing wing, and it has opened an electrical trades lab staffed by an industry veteran. The report characterized the electrical program as high demand.
In the first week of November, eighth-graders from 14 partner schools across five counties are scheduled to tour the Shelby campus. The visits are intended to introduce students to career-tech labs before their junior and senior years.
Pioneer has also added electives. A second-year forensic science course includes crime scene labs and is taught by an instructor who trains with law enforcement professionals, the report said. Other offerings include sports history, entertainment history and entrepreneurship. An adulting course takes students into career labs for practical tasks such as checking vehicle oil, changing tires and basic home wiring.
Juniors and seniors can still participate in athletics and extracurricular activities at their home high schools while attending Pioneer, according to the report. The district also advertises adult education and local business partnerships. More information is available at pioneerctc.edu or go2pioneer.com.
