WTVG reported that Toledo Lucas County Public Library officials gave a first look inside the new Washington Branch before its scheduled public opening. The building, nearly 20,000 square feet, is at 3025 Alexis Road on an eight-acre site and will replace the former branch on Harvest Lane.

According to the library, the branch includes larger collections, newer technology and areas intended for visitors of varied ages. CEO Jason Kucsma described a children's area, an adult collection and reading nooks, the station reported. Library officials said resident input influenced the design: 251 people responded to a 2024 survey and 100 took part in a 2025 town hall. Officials also said accessibility was a priority, with a stated aim of going beyond Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The move is expected to draw more residents, Kucsma said, according to WTVG.

The Washington Branch is the first project in the library's $153 million Building for the Future plan. Library leadership cited Bowling Green State University's Center for Regional Development in estimating $14.4 million in total economic output and more than $6 million in wages and benefits for construction and trade workers. The branch is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 5.
